About the Founder



Margaret Gillan Ludlow is an editor and paginator for The Progress-Index, a Petersburg-area daily newspaper. Previously, Gillan was a reporter for GayRVA.com, Richmond Magazine and other publications covering social, political, economic and cultural news in the Richmond area.

During her time with GayRVA.com, Gillan covered topics including Occupy Richmond, generous pastoral responses in the Episcopal Church, same-sex couples’ adoptions and the VA PrideFest.

For Richmond Magazine, Gillan tackled mouthwatering feature-styled articles. She has reviewed the best bakeries in Richmond, best cupcake frosting, a retro candy shop with 52-flavors of soda, a charming tea shop called RealiTea and cooking meals with Gearhart’s ‘Spices with a ‘Stache,’

From 2006 to 2010, Gillan was a contributing writer for the Fredericksburg Free Lance-Star. In 2010, Ludlow was the editorial intern for Richmond Magazine, working under the direction of executive editor Chad Anderson and senior editor Tina Eshleman. In 2011, Ludlow was the editorial intern for GayRVA.com, Richmond’s only online publication for the LGBTQ community and its supporters.

Gillan holds a Bachelor of Science in Mass Communications, concentration in Print Journalism and a minor in Criminal Justice from Virginia Commonwealth University. She will graduate in May 2014 with a Master of Science in Interactive Media through Quinnipiac University. Ludlow was born in Alexandria, Virginia and grew up in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
