Daniel Perry: 1996 - July 15, 2013

Scottish teenager Daniel Perry, 17, committed suicide after he became a victim of blackmail. The Internet blackmail scam targeted Daniel by recording his interactions via Skype with a person Daniel thought was an American girl his own age.

The blackmailers threatened to show Daniel's family the footage unless he paid a certain fee. However, Daniel jumped off the bridge.

He was also taunted on Ask.FM where he was urged to commit suicide by trolls on the website. Messages said things like "kill yourself mate" and "you need to let a blade meet your throat."

According to Daniel's mom, Nicola Perry, the blackmailers who were behind the video scam were "clever and dangerous" and manipulated the Skype footage. Police asked that if anyone else was experiencing similar cyber bullying, to please alert authorities.
